White Paper 3: The Entangled Zone: Measuring the e-ZPD in Human–AI Co-Construction

This white paper introduces the Entangled Zone of Proximal Development (e-ZPD) as the dynamic space where human cognition and AI co-evolve. Moving beyond traditional assessment models, it proposes a new approach to measuring learning as a living, relational process rather than a set of outcomes. Drawing on the Entagogy framework, the paper presents innovative metrics such as the Coupling Index, Perturbation Density, and Reflexive Latency to capture real-time co-adaptation, metacognitive growth, and ethical interaction. It offers educators and researchers a new lens for understanding learning as movement, rhythm, and connection, and outlines how these insights can transform teaching, curriculum design, and assessment into a more responsive, human-centred system.
